At the top of 2007, our drummer Lorenzo "Pee Wee" Jones passed away. At Pee Wee's funeral I saw our singer Susan Mumford and bassist Terry Baker. I hadn't seen either of them in ages. Michael was living in California and couldn't be there, but we all talked. I had recently learned about the RPM Challenge, the "make a record in a month" project. Susan, Michael and I talked of making a Tiny Desk Unit album. And so it began, our first full-length studio album ever, 28 years after we began playing music together. Michael would send me song ideas, usually guitar with a scratch track of drums. I would add new drums parts and then add synthesizers and other texture. Susan still lived in Washington and she'd come to my house to listen to our tracks, then write and sing. Files would fly back and forth, coast to coast. It was pretty great making music again. We missed Lorenzo and Terry wasn't able to join us, but it was amazing when chemistry so long lost came back to haunt and invigorate.
